Clever Cat MBS ®
MBS is a naturally fermented and brewed "living" synbiotic liquid developed to promote a Healthy Gut. MBS provides assistance to balance your cat's microbiome. Observed studies suggest this improves vigour and coat, and helps maintain healthy joints throughout your cat's life.
Not only does MBS assist in balancing the gut microbiota it may also benefit bone and cartilage development in cats at crucial stages in their lives, such as rapid growth, pregnancy and in old age. This is due to the Bacillus subtilis (Natto) producing the necessary vitamin K2.
Available in a 250mL bottle.
With the current knowledge in human health that a balanced gut is essential to wellbeing, MBS determined to deliver such benefits to our companion animals.
In the world of gut microbiota, there are both good and bad bacteria. MBS has been developed to maximise the good gut microbiota which in turn may support the immune system. The result is a healthy, happy cat!

Why do domestic cats need MBS?
Cats have accompanied us on our journey through civilisation.
But along the way they have suffered as we have, from the over-processing and over-simplifying of food and diet, all in the name of opportunity, progress and convenience.
Cats are hunters and carnivores (meat eaters). The natural cat diet was the entire caught animal including raw meat, fat and offal (organs and abdominal contents). Today scientists can explain why this primal diet suited cats so well. Live good bacteria in their prey’s stomach contents included probiotic microbes essential to support their gut and vitamin K2. And in the prey animal’s vital organs were stored other vitamins beneficial for cats.
MBS provides support for the good bacteria to thrive in a cat and its active bacillus manufactures the valuable vitamin K2.
Are we feeding domestic cats the wrong foods and how can MBS help?
A cat’s sharp feline teeth and short digestive tract are made to eat and get their nutrients from their prey. They are not adapted to digest grains or other plant material and their system cannot utilise these foods effectively. Care must be taken feeding digestible carbohydrates and roughage as their system is not designed to cope with these human food elements.
The digestive tract of cats is very short when compared with dogs and people. It only takes 10 to 24 hours for food to pass through a cat. Therefore, cats must process their food quickly within a shorter small intestine.
Fish is not a traditional food for cats even though most cats like fish. It has been suggested that high fish diets be supplemented with vitamin K.
Adding MBS to a cat’s diet optimises their digestion and provides the necessary vitamin K2.
What should we be feeding our cat then?
Very rarely plant material is eaten by cats, not for nutrition but most probably to make them vomit. Cats will eat palatable processed wet and dry feed when offered.
Cats require specific types of protein (such as taurine), and cope with high levels of fat in their diet. Protein levels in the diet should be high for a healthy cat and cats can use protein for energy. Fats are also used for energy, their essential fatty acids and fat soluble vitamins.
MBS essentially helps with the digestion and absorption of everything fed to a cat and contains enzymes to optimise their uptake of the required protein and fats in their diet.
Is there any advantage for me in feeding my cat MBS?
Cats and their owners have been shown to share their microbiome. Therefore logic would dictate that reducing the pathogens in and around your cat would be beneficial for everyone's health.
Early-life exposure of children to cat’s and other pet’s bacteria may result in reducing allergy development and obesity due to alteration of the gut microbiota.
How do I introduce MBS to my fussy cat?
Shake the bottle well before use. Then mix thoroughly into your cat’s favourite food, such as fresh meat, canned or dry food. MBS being a liquid and not a powder has an advantage here for fussy cats. Once your cat gets used to the taste of MBS they will gladly eat anything it is added to.
