Is your dog a candidate for pancreatitis?

(This is part 6 of an 8-part series on overweight pets from the desk of the Dynavyte Vet.)

Dogs that are on high fat diets, overweight or suffer from diabetes along with certain breeds appear to be more prone to pancreatitis. The pancreas is an organ that produces enzymes to assist digestion and controls sugar (glucose) management in the body. The pancreas sits next to the stomach and small intestine.

Inflammation of the pancreas may result in various signs that occur infrequently or repeatedly including vomiting, pain or bloating in the abdomen, diarrhoea, off their food, and dehydration. When this serious problem occurs, you should seek veterinary help.

Bacillus subtilis (Natto) and pancreatitis, the key ingredient in Dynavyte Pets.

Bacillus subtilis has been shown to have a protective role against pancreatitis. The study in 2017 found that an enzyme produced by Bacillus subtilis:

  • “effectively reduced pancreatitis”,
  • suppressed inflammatory chemicals,
  • restored gut integrity, and,
  • pre-treatment with the enzyme was “an effective intervention to control pancreatitis.”
